Here is mama conducting me as I practice to try out for contralto in the group, Concerto Romano.

Well, last night mama and papa went to a church nearby to hear a group, Concerto Romano, that they had heard a few years ago when the group was just beginning and practicing down below an apartment mama and papa lived in and last night the same young man who conducted the chorale and instrument group was THERE with a huge crowd of people and being filmed by someone or other and all of the instruments are old, old, old, 16th and 17th century,  and there was a lovely horn and violin and cello and harpsichord and the tenor knocked mama’s and papa’s socks off and the soprano was like an angel and the music was all Christmas music with a lot of ‘noels‘ in the lyrics and all of it put everyone in the mood for this lovely day today!

Alessandro Quarta, choir master of Concerto Romano

The group’s leader, Allesandro Quarta, mama says, was born to be what he is, the chorale and music conductor ofis very special musicians and singers.  He practically dances as he conducts, always smiling and full of energy, and the violin player sways and dips and it is like being in the ancient streets of a little town from the 1600s with all the old instruments and you could just imagine the players in those costumes of old with ruffled collars and jester suits and pointy hats and tights and funny shoes, but it’s the music that is amazing.

The video site in this blog is Songs for the Poor, meaning the lively music of the back streets of Naples where so many were and are still poor.

I hope you like this –people like Alessandro are not born every day and he seemed to mama to be a perfect music man for the holidays.

This second video shows the costumes of the time when the music was written.

I hope so much that your day was as nice as ours.  We were just three–mama, papa, and Loulou, that’s me, haha. Snuggled at the end of a perfect day was my best present.
