Well, I was inspired by Ellen Pilch’s blog, 15 and meowing, which just informed me that I had won a Dr. Seuss Hat and bookmark! I started thinking about things I’d won, and couldn’t think of a thing and since mama and I exchange stories all the time, mama said, “Loulou, did I ever tell you my story about winning a giant salame at a very small Food Fair in a very small Italian town years ago?”

Well, I didn’t remember that one so she continued, “So there was a large circle of wood and just outside the circle there were little raised, covered holes on another piece of circular wood, and there were numbers painted on the little hiding holes, and so you bought a number, and a person put a cute little guinea pig on the circle and then spun it, not fast, just fast enough to make the guinea pig want to find somewhere to hide and hide, he (or she!) did by choosing a hole to jump into. So my number was on his hiding place and they gave me this huge salame that I cut into many pieces and shared later with some of the people at our lunch table. We all ate at the fair at big tables with others and that was really the nice part. Papa’s kids were really small then and they were delighted at the guinea pig roulette!”

HEY!  Your mama paid me with great kibble to run into her numbered box!  Who am I to turn that down?

A version of Guinea Pig Roulette, but much slicker than the one mama played!

So at least mama has won something.  And now I’ll have my Dr. Seuss hat to wear in honor of that great artist and writer of children’s books.

Mama is nudging me to say that they are NOT just for kids. She has read every one!

I’m writing and illustrating MY new book.  Le Chat Beau Dans Un Chapeau, haha.
