Hi, mama, I know you’re puzzled by my shadow but I’m right here saying hello on this rainy Saturday. BONJOUR!

Well, today I’m floating around in our kitchen to see what simple recipes I can pick up to enhance your chilly week-end, but especially OURS, since it’s pouring cold rain and birds are getting slapped in the beak with bursts of freezing wind and leaves and mama says there is nothing better than a nice bowl of hot soup on a day like this.

This is easy peasy with brown mushroons:

8-10 brown mushrooms, sliced or chopped medium

4 tablespoons olive oil

1 small sweet onion, chopped medium

2 cloves garlic, chopped coarse

4-5 cups chicken or vegetable broth, homemade, or made with bouillon cubes but organic ones if you can find them

Dash of white wine or sherry if you have any (or Cognac if you have that lying around)

Salt and pepper

Juice of a small lemon

Pinch of hot pepper

In a large soup pot, heat the oil, sauté the onion and garlic for a couple of minutes to take the edge off, then add everything else and after the mushrooms wilt, simmer for 20 minutes or so until the smell makes you want to eat it NOW.

Whiz the soup up with a wand mixer or in a food processor until very smooth.

Serve with a sliced hard-boiled egg on top of each bowl.

Have a warm tummy Saturday!
