Rome’s security is enhanced by gladiators following a police vehicle.  Mama and papa were out this morning just trying to get their hearts and souls back to normal by looking around them, by seeing beautiful monuments, by having a little bite of mid-morning mozzarella and a café so thick and creamy that one’s body has a hard time staying down too long.  But of course, the café wears off…

Still, it was a lovely, sunny day, I could see from my perch looking over the piazza, but I could also see hordes of tourists looking like schools of fish swimming through the streets.  So many this year!  But mama and papa walked on, stopping in a small church nearby that they had forgotten and this sweet child’s tomb was in the first little alcove.

The tears began to flow with thoughts of the many children who were killed just two days ago.  But we must remember, mama says, and of course that will be all we do from now on.

A lovely stack of macaroons brightened the morning.

I think someone passing by nicked one out of the bottom row, no?

A walk through the lovely shopping arcade named after Alberto Sordi helped lift their spirits, too.

And the enormous baroque Chiesa Sant’ Ignazio with its false cupola was a stop along the way. The black part at the top appears to be a beautifully constructed dome, but it is completely flat!

And the fountain to which everyone goes to throw his/her coin with the wish to come back always to Roma.

A visitor wishing, wishing, wishing…

And after yet another walk, I hope you are not wearing out.  But for Marcus and the Funny Farmers, here’s your treat for being so good on our tour and not nipping at the heels of the tourists.

Three cones of gelato just for you, to go with three coins in the fountain–mine, papa’s and mama’s.

Num, num, I had a lick, too!  From Marcus’ cone, haha.
