I’m gettin’ ready to do a rovesciata–bicycle kick; I just take my time…

Well, I’ve been watching Chile pretty much run circles around Spain tonight in the World Cup, and I have to say, those guys have chutzpah (or cojones?), and determination.  Actually I observed that both teams were pretty snappy on the uptakes, but Chile had a foot on the ball no matter where Spain took it. Now I know from experience how hard it is to keep my paw on the ball mama gave me to play with in the garden (or on her precious Navajo rug, but I’m very, very careful. claws in), and those guys on both teams had amazing feet!

But soccer IS mostly feet, and if you can get your foot on the ball when the other team thinks it has it made, you can usually take it out quickly and get it to one of your teammates and head in the opposite direction toward the goal.  Chile appears to be masters at that, and believe me, I’ve been in front of this tube watching a lot of soccer with mama and papa and I haven’t seen a team steal the ball as often as the Chileans.

Papa kept saying, “I wonder if they could be doped”, and maybe they were.  Maybe both teams were.  Evidently the rules about testing these guys have become pretty lax, but I just thought that maybe they are just used to the hot weather (in Brazil, it’s HOT) or maybe your coach makes you run up Aconcagua once a week—who knows?  But I haven’t seen a game so far in this World Cup that was quite like this one, especially the first goal, which was FIVE passes of perfection and put in the net by a player almost on his back.  Really beautiful.

I wonder if there were a lot of Spanish kitties watching this match with their mamas and papas and if they were myowing with sadness during the last moments…que lastima!

I just realized that I’d have a lot more luck with my ball if I put my claws OUT.  After all, they are sort of my cleats, no?  Hey, I think I’m getting the gist of this game…
