Well, I gazed out of our window hoping for these guys to whiz by and I sat there all morning and then decided to take a bath on the bed in mama’s and papa’s room and wouldn’t you know it—roar, ROAR, ROAR! All nine of the jets went over before I could get to the window and I MISSED THEM!

DAMN!

But I guess I had company. Mama was washing her hair and there was this BIG noise and I heard “%$#@!!*!” from the bathroom and there was mama running out in a towel, dripping wet, to the window and papa was yelling, “Hurry, hurry,” and when we got there all that was left was a trail of pale red, green and white smoke lingering over the piazza. Those guys were GONE!

So much for our celebration. The first time mama visited Rome with papa in June. and on her first morning in this amazing city, nine jets soared over the place they were staying spewing the colors of the Italian flag and mama said, “Wow, what a greeting—was that all for us?”

And of course it wasn’t but papa said, “Yes, I arranged that just for you” and boy was mama happy.

As were all (or almost all) of the people of Italy when liberated by the Allied Forces from Nazi occupation.

And boy, I am glad that happened or I wouldn’t be here in this lovely city.

…Missing the JETS!

Is that what I think it is? Can I get to the window fast enough?
