Family Ties

Three generations rarely together.

Today papa’s son and family and papa’s daughter’s ex husband and papa’s ex-wife and the little anthros of papa’s son and papa and mama had a pre-birthday lunch for papa’s ex-wife, whom mama adores.  It was a hot but beautiful day on the Tevere, Rome’s river, and a sweet celebration for a special nonna.

The real birthday nonna with grandsons and grandaughter.

Mama is a nonna finta, which means a fake nonna.

But they all treat her as nonna, too, which is very happy-making for mama because she loves those little anthros as if they were her own.  I think Roma is a good place for family and for gatherings with good food and joyful moments–mama remembers years ago when she was very young and in Italy for the first time, she thought, “Here one could have children and they would be taken care of by everyone because the Italians love kids so much.” But she didn’t.

And there is much affection in France, too.  Parents are always kissing and hugging their kids, and they let them make mistakes and fall down (not hard) and the kids just get up and continue playing or whatever and don’t whine and cry.  Refreshing.

I, personally, never fall down of course but if I did I would hardly shed tears.  IF I were to slip off the couch, for example, I would immediately  look around the room nonchalantly (whatever that means) and take a bath.  That’s how to behave after having done a body blooper.

But, as I said, I don’t fall.

Well, maybe once.  When no one saw me, of course.  But mama sees everything, I can always tell, and she was very well-behaved and pretended that nothing had happened and went whistling away to another room.  What manners. You know how we kitties hate to be caught doing anything less than perfect.  Okay, make that purrfect.

But I digress. The day was lovely and now THEY are watching Ireland tromp France and THEY are not too happy about THAT.

Me, I am firmly on the couch with my little family around me.

A perfect day.

Unless France loses…

Oh, Loulou – what a famiglia bellissima!!!! I probably misspelled it all but I do sneak-peeks at mom when she studies Italian on Babbel. She seems to be a bit slow with it all but she tries. Lucky YOU, Loulou, to have all those fun, beautiful people who adore you!!! I’ll bet they shower you with kibbles. Bisous.

Oh LouLou me’s sure you mean to fall off. Me rarely falls. Mommy says me’s always been a cautious and balanced kitty. But Raena? Oh me, we’ve got our paws full with her fur sure.
