I’m all smiles today.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare, let’s get a few facts straight here on how much better off the American public is since Obamacare prevailed over dissenting conservatives and Republicans:

  1. A larger proportion of working-age Americans have health insurance than at any time since record-keeping began in 1997.
  2. The number of people under 65 who were uninsured dropping to 16.3 % in 2014, down 4 pints from 2013.
  3. 15,000,000 Americans have gained insurance they did not have before.
  4. Many still uninsured are in that condition because their state governments has refused to let the federal government enroll them in Medicaid.
  5. To conservatives everywhere: sometimes government action can improve ordinary American lives.

The “job-killing Health Care Law Act” as it was referred to by Republicans thinking health care would lead to economic strife has been disproved: the U.S. economy has added 240,000 jobs per month on average since Obamacare was in operation, the biggest gains since the 1990s.

(Facts from Paul Krugman, Hooray for Obamacare, The New York Times, June 26, 2015)

I think there are even health insurance plans for kitties, no? Well, maybe as I get a bit older, I’ll think about that…I’m feeling pretty frisky still.
