Snoozing on my golden holiday cloud…they really snazz it up around here…

So thankful for sun in a cold winter, even though the wind is wild.

Thankful always for Hops and sweet blogs talking about the things that go on in friends’ lives so far away.

Thankful for vets who can help sick animals and take them back to health.

Thanks for kindness in others, good hearts, and giving at holidays to those in need.

Thankful that we are about to have a New Year full of surprises and thankful that mama FINALLY found black-eyed peas online in France for our traditional spoon for good luck and good fortune in the New Year.

They also taste really good!

In a large pot, put a package of black-eyed peas, a dash of olive oil, 1 sweet onion and 4 cloves of garlic, chopped fine, 1 ham hock or large piece of bacon, a few toasted sage leaves, and cover all with a mix of broth, white wine and water. Bring to a boil, skim off the foam and simmer on low until tender.

Eat on New Year’s Day for luck and whatever else you think you might need in 2025!

Make sure you also have cabbage. Many traditions say you need to eat something green, like cabbage, for New Year’s luck.

Your recipe sounds a lot like how I cook them, but I’d never thought of sage.

My Mom always insisted on us having black eyed peas on New Year’s Day – for breakfast. I have carried on that tradition!

Hugs, Pam

No matter how bad things get there is always so much to be thankful for, Loulou. Thank you for the reminder. I had a brain fart and initially thought your mama was talking about black- eyed peas the band (ha ha ha ha). That recipe looks delicious.
