Paws de deux….

Well, I guess you know what THAT means? No? No one else does either, but it sounded sort of cute and I thought of it when mama was telling me about The Sleeping Beauty ballet and how all those anthros jeter around and pirouette and go en paw (make points on their tippy toes) in those strange shoes that lace around their ankles and make their feet pretty weird after a few years but who cares because they are beautiful to watch and impassioned and what’s a couple of bent feet here and there.

Mama says her own bent feet make her crazy and she isn’t even a ballet dancer so what’s her excuse,l she asks?

MY feet are perfect, as you can see, toe shoes or not…

I thought I might do an échatté or a chattu or think up a few cattitudes of my own to add to the repertoire of say, The New York City Ballet, or The Moiseyev even, except I’m not sure they understand cat talk and I certainly don’t speak Russian.

Still, when you think about it, cats are born dancers, and I dance every morning at mama’s chair when my breakfast is a bit late (we’re talking here about AFTER mama gets her coffee, which is REALLY important in the morning). I sort of stand up on two paws and rub around her chair and against her leg and look into her eyes with my piercing eyeballs and she never has the camera around to take the pics of my dance, but what the heck…I get my breakfast.

So just imagine that I am like you (when no one is around), after having seen a ballet or any kind of dance at all, and both of us dance through the house, free, without worry that someone is looking at us (sort of like singing in the shower, no?) and we are absolutely liberated and even look a bit like REAL ballerinas and if going to a ballet inspires this, then go more often, I say!!!

Meanwhile, I’ll practice my paw de deux—if only I had a deux with whom to practice, haha.

Maybe papa would stand in for Nureyev…

Have you ever seen such an extension? Wait until I put on my ballet slippers…
