MAMA, WHAT WAS THAT WHACK ON THE WINDOW?

Well, today was full of drama!

I was snoozing quietly, minding my p’s and z’s,  and mama was with me downstairs where all the French doors are, and she heard a LOUD thump and papa even heard it upstairs, but I heard and SAW what had happened!

Out on our terrace table was a fairly good-sized grey birdie with his little feet in the air and he had knocked himself out on the window that mama had just cleaned and he had bounced from the window right onto the table!

Mama broke into tears and called papa, and he came running and tried to comfort both of  us, and mama ran wailing to her office and within seconds papa, always the hero, observed the little creature at close range, and after a few moments said, through the terrace door, he’s breathing, he’s breathing and mama wanted to sprinkle drops of cold water on his head as that often helps, and while they were debating what to do, he struggled to his little feet and flew off (albeit in a very wavy line)!

But he then flew quite strongly even in today’s high wind, which probably caused his whack on the window while he was trying to stay upright.

What DO birdies do in high winds?  Today’s wind makes it hard for ME to stand up!

But oh, were we happy that birdie was all right.

We hate when this happens, don’t you?  Mama says she has seen too many birdies fly into windows.  Maybe just leave them dirty, right?

But having solved the problem, I can finally go back to important business…

That has happened here too. Birds can’t tell it’s a window. But they seem to be pretty resilient…and recover quickly.

It’s really awful when that happens isn’t it. My Auntie lives in a house with a lot of windows and many have no curtains on them. She had to put some stickers on those windows to keep birds from trying to fly THROUGH them to the other side! I guess they can’t tell the difference between a barrier and a free ride to the other side. So happy your grey friend was able to fly away again!

Hugs, Teddy

Oooooh – a happy ending for that birdie!!!! He (or she) shouldn’t be flying around in that wind! But maybe trying to get back to the nest? It rained yesterday HARD at times – but today – SUN! Hope no wind there so the birdies can fly safely!!!!!

Glad the birdie was OK. Your Mama is a great window cleaner.

Some people put a black construction paper cut out in the shape of a soaring hawk on the inside of the window. It lets the bird see there is something there, and maybe the shape of the hawk spooks them. Or 0 just leave it dirty…

Oh yea, we sure hate that when a poor birdie flies into our front window. So far almost all have lived to fly away.
