Well, they are back.

And these are the roses from mama’s garden that she cut immediately and put in a vase for her dear friend, Kate, who is no longer with us.  I loved that lady so much. She was our friend for so many years, or at least mama and papa knew her a very long time and from the time I knew her, she loved me back a lot.  I went to her house in Modena and there was another kitty there who tried to play with me but Kate kept our door shut because she knew that I’d feel better.  That kitty was a ‘he’, I think.  Kate was so hospitable and she cooked good things and told great stories and people all around the world knew and loved her for so many reasons and now there is a big hole in all of our lives and we just cry and cry.

It was septic shock.

It was fast, mama says.

No one knows what started it off–perhaps an infection–but I think this house is going to be a little quiet right now and that mama and papa are going to need a lot of me around to rub on their ankles and keep them warm on their bed.  And there is a husband and two daughters and a son and a little seven-year-old granddaughter, Hannah, left now to wonder what happened to their beloved Kate and how it could have happened so quickly.

Mama called Kate’s daughter, Claire, tonight and they both cried and then Claire said to mama, “Hannah came into my room this morning and said mamma, are you still so sad and I said yes, Hannah, I am really, really sad” and Hannah said, “Don’t worry, mamma, grandma has gone to a nice place and there’s just not very good reception there.”

I bet she’ll work that one out real fast…

Beautiful roses for a beautiful friend. We are so sorry that your friend Kate did not make it. We send soft purrs and love to you Loulou, your Mama & Papa and Kate’s family.

Loulou, I know you will comfort your Mama & Papa all they need to help them, but I will send you some extra purrs to help. The loss of a special friend requires extra purrs

You told a wonderful story. You are so right. Kate was loved all around the world… in all corners, in all homes. The world is a little emptier now that she is gone.

I’d like to share with you what I wrote about my wonderful Kate. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading your blog.
