The Pleasures of a Piazza

Dreaming of piazza della Rotonda

Well, mama comes home and TELLS me all about the soprano and tenor who burst into song in the piazza where mama and papa sometimes have a glass of something whilst gazing at the perfection of the Pantheon.

But I would love to HEAR them! And mama says that if she knew how to put her video of the singers into this blog for me, she would do it subito (right now!).

And then there is the mime, who walks along behind people (even nuns and priests) and imitates them or he makes a halo out of a balloon and holds it over various heads and no one has any idea that he is doing it…hilarious.  Children love him.

What’s so magical about this city is that you can be minding your own business at a little cafe, people-watching, relaxing after a day’s work, or just being a tourist, and all of a sudden these magnificent voices start singing an aria or a Bocelli trademark song and many, many people gather around to hear and for a lovely, special moment, everyone in the piazza is part of a whole, listening together in awe to uplifting music.

Mostly it just feels good.

Which, in these days, is a nice thing to feel, no?

Wow – Loulou – I just woke up and thought the headline was PIZZA and dove right in!! Put your Piazza sounds even more fun! Drinks and snacks and mimes and music and drinks and snacks…..and the beautiful view of the Parthenon lit up at night. Magical. I want to see the funny clown with the balloons – that has to be a hoot!!!!

Well, the video in your link doesn’t play in this country but we popped over to Andrea Bocelli’s youtube page and listened to his duet with his son. Our favorite Bocelli song is the “Perfect” duet he sang with Red Sheeran. Love the blending of their voices. Thanks for the reminder.

Somehow I saw the words “rotund” and “pizza” in this post. After careful reading, it is even more delightful !
