Well, today I am stepping aside so that mama can introduce you (again) to Rasta, our neighborhood kitty whose mama and papa we cannot figure out and who live just up the street. But when Rasta showed up a few days ago, he was so thin and seemingly starving, it seemed, and as we watched him eat, we just said, to hell with not feeding the neighbor’s kitty…this kitty needs food!
We have been told that some kitties are left to forage by themselves when their family takes a holiday. Unbelievable. But maybe Rasta’s mama and papa are off galavanting and just left him alone, but the street door to his home on the second floor is open so he can have some shelter. Mama is going to look into this….and when she looks, she looks.
Rasta leaps our tall garden gate, heaven knows how, but he shows up at breakfast and dinner and eats voraciously, whatever that is, but I think it’s a good thing.
He’s 17 after all, but you would never know it from those lovely young yellowish eyes and soft fur, even if it is covering a pretty skinny frame! I’m hoping he will be around for a long time, as he has bonded with papa and rubs on papa’s shoes and legs and papa loves him back.
He needs love and snuggling.
Rasta’s, that is, as papa gets quite a bit of that, haha.

A cute kitty in the catnip leaves…he is like a kitten…at 17!! Rasta, that is, not papa….

Even after neutering, some tomcats just like to roam. Their natural instinct is to claim about a square mile as territory. If they smell delicious human food in that territory, they’ll beg as if they’d never had a home. If they meet friendly female cats, they’ll act as if they wanted to move in with whichever one they’re nearest to, but then go on to patrol the rest of the square mile. They’re a great nuisance to people who think every cat should be “owned” by a human! They won’t stay with us, and they won’t stay away.
Sometimes older cats grow thin because it helps them cross the Bridge. Food just passes through.
Oh, merci for all of this very good and helpful knowledge, but this kitty now is filling out and muscular and can leap tall buildings, haha. He clears the gate easily (at 17!) but maybe his mama doesn’t really know how old he is. He was seriously starving when he first visited, his fur was not nice and his little bones were eveident and now he is muscular and strong and plays like a kitten. But you may be right on all counts and others feed him too. It was not eveident 3 weeks ago!!!
What a beauty! I just can’t understand some people. Thank you for taking care of him!
Well, you’re welcome but it’s so easy to love him!
Poor Rasta! Thank cod your mama is looking out for him.
Well, it’s a done deal around here when a kitty is hungry..
How kind you are to feed Rasta….sounds like he appreciates it very much too. He’s quite handsome. I guess his family thought everyone else would take care of him while they’re away. You all help him not be lonely and hungry and that is WONDERFUL of you!
Hugs, Pam and Teddy too
Oh Mr Teddy, he is giving such pleasure to see him morning anf night and he is such a sweetie. Mana ordered food with great glee! So nice to have a kitty in the garden for me to connect with, too.
I do not understand people leaving a cat to forage either. I am glad your mama and papa are temporarily “adopting” him to keep him alive and healthy.
Well, papa is getting quite attached…and we will feed Rasta for sure.
I used your sweet picture to make you a lemony house…LOL! Hope you like it…
OH IT WAS YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Mama just did my blog thinking it was a gremlin. HOW DID YOU GET IT ON WORDPRESS MEDIA????? What a lovely present. Mama thanked you again in my blog today.
Rasta’s a beautiful kitty! Good for you for keeping him fed!
He is a real sweetie.
Awww, we do hope he isn’t sick… But yes, he is a handsome sweetie!!
As are this couple that are your pawrents, LouLou!
Well, mama amd papa can’t see a kitty hungry….
WOW, Rasta doesn’t look 17, he’s very handsome. Nice photo you two!

Well, he HAS a home, that is what is wo weird, and mama knows his mama but can’t figure it out….
