Van Gogh’s clogs. Pastel art by Maggie the Magnificent.
We are so thankful for grandkids and for their creativity.
We are always thankful for YOU, the readers and commentors who help us have such fun and lively days with your wit and humor and helpful suggestions.
Does anyone know how to test for worms without taking a cat to the vet. We cannot take Rasta to a vet…..no no no.
Merci for suggestions.
I’m looking for solutions but the garden seems to have none….

All cats at the shelter are given Strongid and/or Panacur. Both work, and as noted, the Revolution drops on the neck will also do the trick, and keep fleas away.
Merci, mama is researching all!!!
I tried to click reply below, but then it wouldn’t let me reply, you don’t have to publish this if you don’t want.
Most cats do not have any reactions to these worm medications. We’ve had thousands of cats at the shelter and none ever had a bad reaction. Many of the medicines have been on the market over 20+ years and are very safe for the cats, not the worms.
Have you asked Rasta’s mother if she noticed her cat has worms? Let her know you are willing to help, she might be grateful. The worst thing to happen is she says she disagrees, there’s nothing wrong, and doesn’t want the assistance.
MERCI…a very good idea and is there a particular med you like at the shelter?
We don’t have any grandkids, but Mummy’s grand-nieces and nephews are also very creative!
Why can Rasta not be taken to a vet?
Because his mama lives up the street and he is not OURS…he just visits, gets a bit of food and our granddaughter plays with him and draws him and then he goes back home, but he comes and goes whenever he wishes. His OWN family needs to have him checked and we’re staying OUT of that one….
That’s a beautiful painting, sweet angel LouLou🎨We’re thankful for you too😺Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day to you and your mommy too🐾😽💞
I missed your blog yesterday and then it dissappeared. Darn.
You can probably assume since Rasta is outside that he may have worms and treat him without testing. I would call the vet and ask them what would be best for that.
Good idea. We shall follow that advice but he seems so healthy…weird.
Another wonderful bit of art from Miss Maggie…….we don’t know if there are any over the counter tests for cats available to test for anything – I think most stuff has to be done at a vet’s!
Hugs, Teddy
Yes, we would love a vet visit but that’s a no no for sure! We talked to his mama again yesterday and she seems to think it’s great that he visits and almost lives with us…weird, weird.
One almost wants to put feet into those clogs! Are they ‘klompen’? (wooden shoes…)
You know, they do look inviting! I’ll ask her….
How to test for worms without taking the cat to a vet? Get a good, fresh stool sample and just take that to the vet, they can test without seeing the cat.
Remember you can treat for roundworms and hookworms, the most common, with medicine whether the cat has them or not. The cat shelter routinely gives the meds upon intake, not bothering to test them. The medicine won’t hurt the cat even if it doesn’t have worms. Here the medicine is available over the counter.
If it’s tapeworms, you need a different medicine. You’ll know if you see what looks like little grains of rice in the stool. The vet would have to give it to you and it’s usually two doses.
If you can get the flea preventive called Revolution (Selamectin), it treats for fleas, heartworms, roundworms, hookworms and ear mites. It’s a liquid you put on the cat’s skin and it protects for a month.
Merci for all of this but we feel weird treating someone else’s kitty! And what if he has a reaction to any of the above….?
I don’t know how to test for worms. but most of the topical flea meds kill most worms so you could dose him with one of those. XO
Merci, Ms E. We’re apprpaching that point I think….but he’s still another mama’s kitty!!!
Some worms are visible in cat poop – tapeworms for instance. Often if you get a new cat the vet just assumes it has worms and worms it (if it isn’t a tiny kitten.) Some wormers are liquid or paste (in tubes) and some are topical, like flea meds are. They might be different in Europe but should be similar. Some wormers take out more than one kind of worm too.
Merci, Ms Mary. Mama is ordering some just in case she can get up her courage to use it…anonymously.
yoo take sum sumwhat fresh poop to dee vet fur testing
He doesn’t poop here. EVER. He is so polite….
