Out Or In

Well, mama is feeling a little scratchy tickle and gargoyled with her own vinegar (hey, I know a gargle from a gargoyle but what’s more fun?) and decided to skip her exercise class just in case this is the start of something and since everyone mwah-mwahs she didn’t want to pass anything around, especially in this weather, but what is your take on this?

When you feel headachy and scratchy do you just stay in a bit and not run around (as mama’s mama always said) but try to keep away from crowds and just wait a day or so to see if you can foil the baddies?  Or do you plunge out into rainy weather and defy the gods and REALLY come down with something?  I know, I know, mothers with kids and people who work 9 to 5 (or later) don’t have much choice, but there are sick days at most work and maybe it’s a good thing to save them up for winter.  Who knows.  Maybe it’s just being over 30…er…make that, 40.

Here’s what mama and especially, I, decided for today:

image

Look at pretty things as often as possible.

Eat apples and fruits, like the ones in mama’s painting, and drink a lot of water, as in gallons, not glasses.

image

Make minestrone—put every vegetable you have into it (mama even used her beet tops and leftover spaghetti, cut up in small bits).

image

Just in case, make more chicken broth (I get some of the chicken, heh, heh–this was MY suggestion).

image

Build a nice little fire if you can.  If not, stay warm and wrap something around your throat at all times.  The Chinese believed that cold came in through the back of the neck and you couldn’t see them coming, so to cover your neck is a good thing in winter.

REST, REST, REST.  Do not exercise if you are getting something–all docs say that but I’M the one who said it this morning and mama listened to ME.

I moved to my chair–this is REALLY the position in which to rest.  Works every time.

Such good advice, Loulou ! Unfortunately, NE Ohio is Sinus Central, so if I stayed home every time I had a scratchy throat, I would never leave the house til it was Summer and time for the Humidity Fest. Those soups look delicious.

We think you and your mama have the right idea on how to spend any day whether you are feeling bad or not.

The most important thing to do when you are sick or healthy is to snuggle with a kitty 🙂

Your mom is so fortunate to have you to give such good advice when she needs it. What would she do without you? Well, go to exercise class when she might be coming down with something, of course. Good save!
