Gobble, Gobble

Well, you can bet I am going to be ON MY TOES this Thursday when mama comes in the door from her Thanksgiving dinner with friends.  If she does not have a DRUMSTICK or THIGH or…well…a few nibbles of that infamous bird, I am going under the bed and not coming out until I see the red of the cranberry sauce.

Those people are going off (mama with the stuffing and a tarte tatin and maybe some truffles and oh, a bottle of limoncello because she found THREE full bottles here from the last visit that she had made in the summer–what a stash!) to a gathering of friends and I know for sure that not even 10 people can lay waste to a whole bird!

Those babies are BIG!

Mama has a cousin who insists that Butterballs are the best, but mama thinks they are pumped up with something just to make them look like Mae West, whoever that is, and so she buys her turkey at a butcher who gets them from a real turkey farm, no frills.

Once her brother gave her a wild turkey and that was really tasty, but I not up for going hunting the day before Thanksgiving, plus I think a really wild turkey might lay waste to ME!

And as you can see, they travel in GANGS!

Wednesday is stuffing day. Mama is letting the cornbread sit out for two days to get a little stale, and then she makes the stuffing. She’s really happy this year to deposit the stuffing at the cook’s house and LEAVE, letting them work out the logistics, but it’s nice that there is a TG dinner at all.  Italians do not celebrate Turkey Day, but they DO eat a bird at natale, Christmas.  But I don’t even want to mention what they do to THAT birdie before roasting….

Don’t forget to make your cranberry sauce!  Or pepper jelly or whatever it is you eat on Thanksgiving.  And despite the turn in the world recently, we have so much to be thankful for.  I’ll bet if you made a list, you’d still be writing ’til the end of the year.

These knees I am lying on, for example.

Don’t forget to visit Rascal and Rocco!  I couldn’t get this into my blog online and so put it here but it is a great graphic.

We hope you get lots of turkey, Loulou. As for me, I prefer the whipped cream. ~Wally

Aaaaaaaaaaaaw LouLou, surely your mommy will bring you some tasty turkey lurkey home. We’re not so sure ’bout those wild ones tho’, don’t think we’d like to go huntin’ either. It’s turned a bit chilly out. And we may be a bit sinister, but we’d like to know ’bout dat Christmas bird. We’ll be thinkin’ of you while we chow down. Big hugs to all. Happy Eating.

Luv ya’

Bet your mama is glad she doesn’t have to go chase down one of those wild turkeys for your dinner. 🙂
