The Home Stretch

Well, I haven’t started yet here, but I’m about to.

And, with THEM gone, I am getting myself toned up and in shape for winter.  I know, I know, you’re supposed to do that for summer, but kitties have to do it for winter because they put on a couple of extra ounces with their winter furs and I wish to look svelte and slim in mine.

I would advise all kitties to start stretching asap to keep the winter blues away and to make sure they are in top form for the long sleepy hours they must spend awaiting spring.

Here are a few of my personal stretches that have worked for me:

image

REACH, REACH, REACH! Count to 10 and reach again.

image

REACH very, very high in order to get the muscles working properly.

image

Reach while leaving the back paws carefully in place. This stretch is for the lateral muscles.

image

This is the sideways reach, parallel paws a must!  Hold for 10.

image

Stretch, stretch until you wind yourself up in the bedcovers.  Then you’ll know you are achieving the maximum benefit.

image

This is the backstroke stretch, which must be done with eyes closed in order to facilitate the meditative effects of the exercise.

image

And this is the final stretch–a variation on The Lion pose of yoga, but done on the back in order to get full tongue-out movement and send positive vibrations to the throat and larynx.  That’s ‘larynx’, not ‘linx’.

You will find, after these invigorating stretches that they are not invigorating at all and must be followed by a deep slumber to recuperate.

The Snoozing Stretch, the most important of all.

OH. MY. CAT. Those are the most adorable pictures I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you for making my day, Loulou … you are gorgeous and irresistibly cute!

You have very good moves, LouLou. I hope I might put on some ounces in the winter because my fur coat has got a bit loose on me.

WOW, Loulou – you make me feel ashamed with my simple back roll so maman can rub my tummy. I do stretch my legs in the air a bit. Does that count? YOU, par contre, look fabulous. I can just imagine what our wild and crazy humanoids will do if we don’t keep in shape – get one of those running machines and tie a piece of meat (sautéed mouse?) at the end so they think we will chase it? Duuuuh. We will have a pow-wow in january and plan a coup de pattes. I’m tired of being a sweet doggie – revolution now!!!

We’ll think about doing some of those stretches after we wake from our 2-hour nap. 😉

I wish it were that easy for us humans to stay svelte.

Oh, yes, we just love that snoozing stretch. In fact, we think we’ll all go practice it again. Thanks for the reminder.
