Wow, what a tennis match!!! Perhaps mama didn’t register the date on 9/11 because she was watching Serena as she met her match in Roberta Vinci, the darling Italian tennis star who upset the world yesterday in The American Open.
It was funny, mama said, but even from the beginning of the match, mama thought Serena did not have her usual poise and determination. Now, it’s true, that mama has not seen a match with Serena as the star—only glimpses every now and then on TV or YouTube, but Serena looked nervous from the get-go and then proceeded to make many mistakes despite her incredible aces one after the other.
What a match! But Roberta, as she said about herself in an interview, was THERE. She was on the court, not thinking about Serena, just thinking about each play, each hit, and enjoying herself immensely.
After this upset of two Italian women winning the semi-finals in The American Open, tennis may never be the same. And now they play one another tonight…boy, I’m not missing that one!
Maybe mama will bring out some little TV nibbles during the match…It happens at DINNERTIME!

Well, Vinci lost to Pennetta and Pennetta is retiring so I probably could have skipped the match. But tonight maybe they’ll put on my favourite movie about those spotted doggies, haha, and I’ll have more treats.
