I know, I’m supposed to stuff up my ears, but I’m starting with the eyes…

Well, I’m getting out my earplugs because mama has warned me that Bastille Day, the 14th of July, around here is VERY noisy and that there will be all sorts of things going off, whatever that means, but I think it means those things that burst in the sky and shower everyone with what look like little stars and things. Last year they lasted for almost 30 minutes!!!

I don’t mind watching them, but I do NOT want them coming down on my fur, no way, no how.

But I’m really glad that the French have such a great celebration for the storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789, which gave the heave-ho to Louis XVI and his reign of absolute power and began the long haul of separating the power based on what the Nation needed. There is also the Fête de la Fédération to celebrate the unity of all French people after Bastille Day liberated so many. Sometimes it takes a revolution to get things back in line, and sometimes I wonder if that might be what it takes to get the middle east settled out. Or Mr. Putin’s Russia.

Who knows? Revolutions are effective, that’s for sure, and aren’t just an excuse for fireworks a few years later.

Around here, people dress in red, white and blue and have dinner out in restaurants and watch the pyrotechnics around 10pm or so. If I can get some good photos, I’ll let you see them on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, I have to go get my grill ready for the saucissons and chill my pasteque (watermelon). It’s sort of like the 4th of July, except French.

It’s sounds like our 4th of July. We hope you have plenty of cotton!

Mommy will sing “that French song of Patriotism” tomorrow that she learned many many years ago in the dark ages tomorrow. She doesn’t remember most of her French any more, but most of that she does!
Please take care when the boomies go off!
love, Cherie,

Marchon marchon qu en sang empure. Abrue v nous see on. So mommy can’t remember the spelling. The sentiment is still there!
(all that time studying french–I had one friend from France who said I sounded Italian. What else do you get with a french teacher who also taught spanish? Forget to spell and talk, that’s what!)

Glad you have cotton for the ears. Be sure to be under blankets or somewhere dark so you can’t see any explosions. And nap until everything is quiet again.
