And they are low calorie, really. Just a little butter here and there.
My Mother used to make crepes like that every once in a while and of course on pancake day, which is the day before Ash Wednesday if I am remembering correctly. We would slather them with butter, then brown sugar and roll them all up, or a Dutch syrup known as Stroop, akin to molasses, but not exactly the same.
When I went somewhere for a meal once; they had pancakes…they were nothing like what my mother made…cause she made crepes, though we called them ‘pannekoeken’!
Ah the ins and outs of cultures melding, mixing and sometimes clashing a bit.
OH, mama forgot you are Dutch. PLEASE tell us about the national sandwich with sprinkles. Mama had found lots of info but would love yours.
‘Hagelslag’! Little chocolate sprinkles on buttered bread. Or ‘Muisjes’ Pink or blue candied sprinkles, usually for announcing a birth. (or just for fun!)
We had a lot of ‘hagelslag, bt hardly ever the ‘muisjes’…maybe my mother didn’t want us to have all the sugar, LOL!
Mama is drawn toward the chocolate ones, haha, but she has a salty tooth so maybe a bit of wonderful Dutch cheese on these!
“Half your wood and half your hay / You must have by Candlemas Day.” So that was an old indicator that winter is only half over then.
Love that and its only 55 days until spring, according to one friend of mama. Who knows. If that groundhog comes out and botches it all….then what?
Thank you to your mama for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. And I look forward to the recipe. XO
It shall be in today. Easy peasy.
Those were good answers! Hey, the crepes look terrific!
