NEW YEAR RERUN – “FRIENDS”

 Well, this is an early blog that I wrote with mama when I was very young but I feel it is pertinent today as we start our new year together. It’s a bit long, but perhaps of interest to you, our sweet friends for so  many years and now for a new one! Merci.

Friends

Mama and papa have special friends visiting here who drove all the way from Nice and came all the way from Vancouver and they’ve known each other for over thirty years and these friends helped so much with the bakery and boy, are mama and papa glad to see them!

I wonder if kitties have friends for that long.

It takes time to have a friend, a real friend, not just one you know and say hello to and maybe see at a gathering, but one of those friends you know you can myow at they’ll come running. I almost wrote ‘funning’ and I think that’s even better because with really good friends, it’s almost always a joyful time full of smiles and bad puns and often hilarious stories of each other’s family and what everyone is doing (or not doing) and what the future might serve up to them in the way of adventures.

Mama and papa have two other friends with whom they always discuss the MOL—Meaning of Life. One time they met and everyone gave his MOL version and they talked about it all night and drank wine and agreed that ___ was the meaning of life and then they couldn’t remember in the morning what it was they had discovered! But tossing around whatever they came up with was really a kick!

I ponder the MOL daily. You think I’m just lounging around, using up precious throw pillows or reclining in my catnip (read: drug) bed or tip, tip, tapping out my blog with my patty paws, rambling on and on about nothing in  particular when actually I am thoroughly going over my view of the MOL, gazing from all sides at the enigma of it, scrutinizing all facets of it, and thinking, of course, as any kitty would of Socrates who said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Hmmm….

So I’m examining my life, daily, and I have come up with part of the MOL, which is that friends, true friends, not just those, “kitty, kitty—oh, you’re so cute” friends but those “Loulou, come here and tell me all about your day and let me help you scratch behind those winsome ears” friends or those “Oh, Loulou, I see that you really want to be left alone right now so I’m tiptoeing out of the room to let you dream” friends are one of the most important facets of the MOL and that people who drive five hours just to have a glass of wine with mama and papa and give me a little snuggle are okay by me and as true as one can get.

As for the other parts of the MOL, I’ll get back to you.
