Snoozing in Roma long ago and now just observing!

*****

Miracolo! This lovely weather is holding up and so perfect to walk in on a Sunday when most of the town is sleeping in and the kitties at the kitty shelter/ruin are basking. Cool word “basking”, no? The origin initially meant “to bathe oneself'”which is exactly what it feels like…a nice sunbath!

The little putti outside our window. I used to think it would talk to me, haha.

Sun on a building next door.

Sun, bathing the strange building out our window that we think was a Roman gymnasium, whose Latin on the side of the building we cannot seem to translate:

ADITUM AD FOR MI ARCHIGYMNASII-CREGORIANI-ANGUSTUM-FLEXUOSUM-S.P.Q.r.EXPLICAVIT.COENOBII.FRONTEM.EXORNAVIT.AN.M.DCC.LII

Would love to know what it says, if anyone knows Latin well!!!

I feel like I’m strolling through Rome myself, Loulou, and basking in the sunlight.

Call it basking or sunbathing, it’s a nice way to relax.

Maybe the putti will turn and speak to you one day, or come find you on your cloud and have a nice chat.

Well, that inscription is a modern mystery indeed. We ran it through google and it came up with: “ACCESS TO THE FOR MI OF THE ARCHIGYMNASIUM OF CREGORIA, NARROW, FLEXIBLE, S.P.Q.r. EXPLAINED. THE FRONT OF THE CONVENT. EXORCED. IN THE YEAR 1855.” Make of that what ye will. Maybe ask around the locals?
But what fine weather you have had, Loulou and family. Perfect for early morning walks, and trips to the gym 😉
Wherever you are, have a lovely week.

Well, the inscription is from 1752, so it’s not Roman, to begin with! Not ancient Roman, at any rate. I thought I knew Latin well, but it doesn’t seem to make any sense to me!
Explicavit means he or she explained.
Coenobium is a monastery, so someone decorated (exornavit) the facade of this building, which I assume was a monastery, in 1752. The Archiginnasio of Bologna is the original main university building. Are you in Bologna? I thought you were in Rome.
At all events, I understand most of the individual words, but I can’t seem to make a coherent sentence out of the inscription.
The pictures are beautiful though – and especially the one of LouLou.
