Tiptoe Tuesday or Shuffling Through Shiso

Sep 3, 2024 | 18 comments

Well, I got a little stuck here in a passing cloud but I was practicing my tiptoeing so that I could tiptoe through the tulips, whatever that means, or at least tiptoe through the shiso, which seems to be taking ver the garden and mama is not in her Japanese cooking mode right now!

We give it to a local restaurant where they make shiso cocktails with rum and the herb and I don’t know what else as I’ve never had one, but mama puts the leaves in salad and it’s delicious. Also on sushi made with just with a bit of raw tuna and soy sauce wrapped in a leaf of this delightful plant. It contains many nutrients.

Papa thinks it is taking over our house along with the garden…

Well, we’ll have a healthy house, that’s for sure!

And the sunflower comes up every year on its own.  Mama’s sweet longtime friend in LA no longer with us loved sunflowers and each spring, Sandy visits with a big sunflower, which mama has not planted (!) and who knows how this happens? But we love it.

That plant does sure look healthy! I’ve probably had that before, maybe.

If you have to be overrun with a plant, at least it’s good it is an edible and healthy one.

We had not heard of shiso. But we love sunflowers. Mama’s friend may have sent a dove to plant that sunflower seed instead of eating it.

Dear Loulou, I made Lynn look up shiso. We knew nothing about it before. She loves mints. She grows lemon mint (lemon balm) fur her green tea in the morn. Guess what! Deer and rabbits do NOT like mints! We love the sunflower and wonder if yer birdies eat the seeds? Ours do. Precious
