Today is Memorial Day, mama says. Mama’s brother was in Vietnam and was affected by agent orange, but it would take a good deal more than that to make a change in that man’s. rain, mama says, because he is so, so smart and remembers every little detail of every little thing. But he was surely affected in some way. Everyone was by that horrible chemical. I don’t know about how my brother feels now about war, but he was in one of the worst–are there any good wars? They are all the worst, mama says, and she and papa are against wars, but for those women and men who were in the army to protect our country, those men and women who are no longer with us and those who are still here but afflicted, mama and papa and I want to say thank you for all you did, and may the ones who are no longer here rest at last, in peace.
Any war is hell. Jan’s brothers all served their country during Vietnam war.
Mama was so glad that her brother came back. He is a kitty-lover and kind man.
