The Big Bangs

Well, I think this day is very special for maman and papa because in the USA it is Independence Day and much to be thankful for as an independent nation.  I hope it lasts.

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July or the Fourth, is a holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great BritainWikipedia.

Another copy of the Declaration of Independence was recently found in archives in the UK.

The big day around here, of course, is the 14th, Bastille Day, celebrating the storming of the prison, the Bastille, and a turning point in the French Revolution.  The oldest and largest military parade in Europe is held in Paris on July 14th, according to Wikipedia.  I’ve never been but that’s because I’m not so good on trains…it’s only 4 1/2 hours from here, but no way am I sitting on a train for that long.  Plus the tunnels hurt my ears, haha.

Here, on the 14th, there are amazing fireworks in the little town next door (as I have mentioned before).  And on August 14-18, the feast of St. Vincent will be celebrated in Collioure.  It is pretty cool, too, and we’ll have fireworks over the bay but the part I love best is the huge sardinade–enormous grills set out in the market square on which hundreds and hundreds of fresh sardines are grilled for crowds of visitors.  Drool, drool!

I write about this every year but this year I’m going to take some good pics of just what happens!  That is, if I can pull myself away from my plate of sardines and a chunk of brie.  Heaven.

You say I’m getting a SECOND plate?  Bring it on….

We didn’t get any special food to celebrate the 4th of July. All we got was lots of noise from the fireworks. Phooey!

SARDINADE!!?? Wow, mama perked up when she read about that!!! I showed her the picture of fireworks an she was reminiscing about BBQ and boiled crawfish and those sardines snapped her out of that nostalgic nanosecond!!
Mama used to watch the 14th july parade of all that military stuff in Paris, and then the fireworks in Nice these last few years and luckily we didn’t go last year as planned! But we will go this year to see Macron (no fireworks) and she’s excited about that – but LOULOU, we are the wise ones – I vote for sardinade!!!! Maybe next year – we can ride together in my stroller, er, carriage? Can’t wait to see pictures!!!!!
