Breadsticks of cinnamon and honey and millefeuille breakfast pastries

Well, today mama brought home all sorts of good things from Roscioli, one of the best bakeries in Rome, and since I love bread and cannot live without a little with my food, I’m doing a Rome day full of things that happen on the way to the bakery.

Fresh pizza a taglio (to cut in servings) at Roscioli

Such as our local coffee bar where the nice woman writes buon giorno on the foam.

Such as man on the street playing the most amazing instrument. I had never seen one before and it sounds a lot like a harpsicord and he was very talented, but one always wonders at a man of a certain age, say, pushing 60, out on the street with his young son (20?) trying to make a living. My heart always hurts a little when I think of how many men and women over 50 are homeless or jobless and just trying to make ends meet. Mama bought the CD and I wish you could hear it but we haven’t figured out how to record anything for the blog yet.

Any ideas?

Then there is the wonderful image in many streets in Rome of two sisters in their habits out for a walk in the morning. Or priests, as the case may be, because we stay in the middle of priest-land.

And then there are the cats at Largo Argentina and the kids in strollers (too small for the—can’t these kids WALK?) and the Sphinx cat of a neighbor, looking like Putin (the cat, not the neighbor).

Rugino, a slippery kitty

And the lovely people who own Il Buco, one of the best trattorie in Rome where ravioli are covered with homemade walnut sauce and the bistecca alla fiorentina is one of the best in Rome.

And so much more on a walk to the bakery…

Oh, and kids eating ice cream. Everywhere.

Personally, I like the kitties along the way.

I’m pretty sure this is a cousin…
