That’s a finger, in case you are wondering.  Remember that fairy tale?

Well, that was just a little pun on my part, that Tail of Tails. Actually the movie is Tale of Tales and papa took mama to it and she actually said this to papa, Well, I’m making a list of all the things you have to do to make up for this movie, and then guess what? SHE LOVED IT. Fantasy is a big hit with mama—Tolkien and hobbits and Game of Thrones and others—but not with papa, so she was surprised to see papa so enthusiastic but it was clear as a Tinkerbell after the first scenes.

The film is beautifully shot (in Puglia, a lot of it) and as papa observed, it is a film of fairy tales but not all fairy tales end well and many are rather graphic and sexual and evil and cruel (Hansel and Gretel, many of Grimm’s, Snow White and so on), and this film has it all and more.  Nonetheless, it is certainly a film that young people could see easily, compared to all the gore and horror they see online in video games, etc.!

Selma Hayek is the star except with her eyebrows back to normal (she was Frieda Kahlo in her most famous film), and also Vincent Cassel, whom mama adores but in this film he was a bit over the top. Perhaps an Italian director in English allowed a bit too many theatrics, but it is a fairy tale after all and people talk funny in fairy tales. For example, Puss-in-Boots hardly talks like a real, down to earth kitty, right? I think…

Selma, having dinner…

Anyway, it is a movie to see and just get lost in the beauty of the sets and scenes and let your mind go to a place it doesn’t go every day. I like doing that.

In fact, I’m doing it as soon as I finish this.

Wow, that’s some place!

And mama says that movies are great but then there are BOOKS, like the one below that her friend, Cathy, is reading to her kitty and books are even more fun than movies because you can make up your own scenery and what characters look like and go off into a world that only you know about.  I wrote about this book and I still love it almost as much as the one I just finished, The Truth According to Us.  It is a humdinger. Whatever that is.
