A victory kiss

Well, I been thinkin’….I was more than remiss in not mentioning my admiration and adoration  of the Women’s World Cup Final, which was won by our very own USA team with some of the most amazing goals ever kicked, especially the one from midfield right over the goalie’s head!  I’ve only seen Miralem Pjanić do that for the Roma! Once.

So hats off to the women who push to win no matter what and then actually DO IT.

It’s funny, sometimes here in Europe, papa mentions that he doesn’t understand why a store or a company doesn’t want to make money.  For example, he’ll site a better way to merchandise products in a particular shop, or he’ll think of a competitive way for a shop down the street from another similar shop to bring in more customers, and in none of the cases is the shop owner really interested in changing or improving his methods.

There was a very interesting article in the NYT (as usual, my favourite paper because it has Garfield, too) a few weeks ago and also in The New Yorker about how Americans are encouraged, especially in Silicat Valley (haha) to fail quickly and often, fail and start again, because only from failure can one learn what is useful make a project work. This is strictly an American penchant, but Europeans are catching on, too.

But what I think is that when you have a team, an American team, of anthros of any sex, there is a push to succeed that sometimes is more prevalent than in other teams.  But I have to mention–especially if it is a women’s team.  Women’s soccer has never had the place in sports that it deserves and perhaps now, managers of events and media will take a new look at what draws a crowd.  The Women’s World Cup had more viewers than any other sports event on TV in the USA.  Amazing.

So I just wanted to say that I’m sorry I didn’t address this beautiful win when it happened.

I must have been off my feed or something, maybe under the bed at the wrong moment, but you can bet I’ll see the next World Cup!
