TAKE COVER!

What is the world coming to? I was watching out my window as typical Sunday people walked by—tourists, Romans, people heading toward the Palazzo Chiggi where the ministers were being sworn in to Italy’s government, and I heard a policeman in the street tell mama and papa that they had to drive another route to go out of the center because two carabinieri had been shot at the Palazzo Chigi, along with a pregnant woman in the crowd who was slightly hurt.

Mama told me that the shooter was unhappy over losing his job and had marital problems. Evidently he intended to dispatch himself after the shooting, but he ran out of bullets.

I just don’t understand these humans who can set off bombs at marathons and start shooting at a government gathering right in the middle of innocent people, most of whom are visiting this beautiful city for the first time.

Not so beautiful sometimes, evidently, and frankly, I was in a shock about this. Lupa, the kitty downstairs, a beauty if there ever was one and a kitty who gets around the neighborhood pretty well, says that she’s never heard about anything like this happening right here in the center of Rome.

Maybe it’s not so bad after all to be a house kitty right now, but I hope those two carabinieri are okay. One has a fracture, but the other has a serious wound in the neck. I’m going to send my kitty powers his way and send him kitty kisses, too, because you never know what might help…
