So do I have to watch Jurassic World? Oh, lordy…

Well, mama and papa have watched a lot of cds of Oscar-nominated films, because papa gets them each year in order to vote (he was a screenwriter/producer years ago), and so I have to sit through six or seven movies, whether I like it or not, when I would much prefer to watch soccer and all those cute anthros running around playing with their balls.

Er…you know what I mean.

So in order of appearance, here’s what went on the list:

LEGEND—A true story and an amazing film about twin brothers, one handsome and fairly sane and one, weirdly handsome but a psychopath, who are leaders of a gang of criminals in London of the 60s. Directed by Brian Helgelund and a master performance of both brothers by Tom Hardy.

SPOTLIGHT—Taken from a true story about pedophilia in the Catholic church in Boston, exposed by a newspaper section called Spotlight. Good performances about disturbing subjects.

BLACK MASS—Another true story of an unholy alliance between the FBI and Whitey Bulger, head of the Irish mob, The Winter Hill Gang in South Boston. Johnny Depp was great, as always, but I was getting up to here with crime movies!

JOY—a sleeper with Jennifer Lawrence who does a bang-up job along with Robert di Nero as her nutty father. Who would think you could do a whole fim about a mop? Charming and feel good. Inspiration for entrepreneurs everywhere.

She and papa took in the grizzly scene (no pun intended) in THE REVENANT and turned it off quicker than a mouse eats cheese. Mama said, “You’ve seen the whole movie in the trailer, but who wants to?” A great director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, gone astray.

Naw, haha, I’m not the movie bear.  Do I look computer-generated to you?

They are threatening to see STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and BEASTS OF NO NATION, but I may have to bow out of those, along with mama.

Only one left, and I’m wearing out. But I do love dinosaurs and weird animals; I just don’t know if I have the strength to sit through another two hours of noise and trauma!  Guess which movie THAT is?

Still, it’s so cosy here by the fire and I’m good at shutting everything else out.
