You know, I am a literate kitty in that I read, read, read and my step-brother, Simon, papa’s son, is one of the editors of a magazine in Italy called Internazionale, which mama brought home this morning and on the cover is a canoe with two men in it—sort of like ‘rubadubdub, two men in a tub’ but it could just as well been two women because the title of the article that the illustration is for is “Il Perfetto Matrimonio” and cites research that has discovered that same-sex marriages are often more successful than heterosexual marriages.

In my New York Times, in an article by Tara Parker-Pope, I read that “Gay relationships tend to be more egalitarian, in part because same-sex couples don’t divide work along traditional gender lines. Gay couples also report less conflict and more happiness in their relationships. And because gay couples often lack the support of family members, they tend to receive social support from an extended network of friends.”

Well, that makes sense, certainly to us kitties who get along really well even when our litters may be mixed—gay and straight together. Who knows, after all, what kitties do? I saw those other cheetahs online when I was writing about my cousin, and frankly, there were a couple that looked pretty cute to me. And mama and papa’s gay friends all seem to be really happy with each other. Most of them have been together for over 20 or 30 years, which is a pretty good statistic considering that a lot of heterosexual marriages tend to wear thin after only a few years. (Make that ‘months’?)

I like the part about sharing the work. Mama and papa do that, and it functions really well. Papa figures that if mama loves to cook and he loves to eat, it’s a perfect match!

Just kidding…papa figures that if mama loves to cook and he benefits from it, the least he can do is clean up afterwards. And boy, is he good at that. Except when he takes the remains of my dinner away to wash the plate. Wait a minute, buddy! There’s cleaning up and there’s cleaning up, but that’s a no-no. I’ll wash it when I’m finished, ok?
