Oh, how I wish I could read more and more books forever…

Well, mama is incredibly touched by a book she is reading that was written by the publisher of her book on bread and who is now writing his own lovely, mind-changing books.  Books on books and reading–amazing new thoughts from this very special man, and mama is loving every sentence.

She is only on chapter five or so but has had to stop often just to collect her own thoughts and responses to Will Schwalbe’s lovely observations about how we read, what we read and how books are essential nourishment for our souls and spirits.

In his first book, The End Of Your Life Book Club, he mentions books that found him and his mother  during the long illness leading to her death, and how these books sustained and enriched their last days together.  That book was like food to mama, as is this new one, Books for Living.  And mama wrote down every book he and his mother read and found that she had also read many on the list.  But mama reads as if the book she is reading is the last one on earth…

If you read, if you are even thinking of reading more, start with these books.

I’ll read over mama’s shoulder for sure as she finishes Mr. Schwalbe’s brilliant insights into words.

Loulou, that chapter on the author’s Latin teacher was so moving I just had to lie down and rest.

I know what you mean, mama.  I do that all day long.
