(NYT photo–the boy was to blow up this mosque)

Mama read to me this morning about a young boy who turned himself in to authorities in Iraq after he had volunteered to wear a suicide vest on a mission for ISIS. It was his way of being able to get out of ISIS by volunteering to wear the vest and then turn himself in. What a courageous young man!

Mama was in tears over this boy wish to live a normal life and perhaps “be a doctor”.

How do these people have the audacity to use children as suicide bombers, promising them that is it all for islam, when it is the most distorted interpretation of that religion to be found? And using children, I ask you? What is in their twisted minds? Who has twisted the teachers of such things in the first place?

This Syrian boy is hope for the new year, mama says. Even one who steps forward with this kind of courage will encourage others to do the same and not be shackled by threats to their families and enlistment into an organization that is not only inhumane but hypocritical beyond imagining.

Read the article if you have time. Mama read it to me and you will not believe what goes on in the so-called ‘training camps’ — all in the name of islam.

What I don’t understand is how the real believers in islam, which promotes kindness and understanding in the name of Allah, cannot gather forces to overcome these sick factions who are bent on destroying and killing anything that does not comply with their ideas.

I think I’m going to find something positive and wonderful to write about for the the new year. But this Syrian boy has begun something that perhaps may inspire other young people to resist the warped teachings of ISIS.

Meanwhile, I’m getting a few winks in to be ready for the New Year…
