image imageimageimage Well, I think I’ve mastered 5th position, but I’m not quite sure what this last one is called.  I may be called upon to perform in Kitty Lake, or maybe next Christmas in The Catcracker, but right now, I am only in practice sessions.  Did you want to do ballet when you were growing up?  Mama did, and she had a few lessons along with all the other little aspiring ballerinas, but I think she was too short or something.  Maybe her legs wouldn’t go where they were supposed to (as mine so gracefully do…haha) but I suppose little anthros  want to do lots of things when they are small–be firemen or cowboys (at least in Texas) or Olympic swimmers or computer wizards and there are certainly some of that last one in the world–and then they end up accountants and teachers and other things. Kids have computers at THREE, did you know that? And we know one young boy who started writing poetry at seven. Well, and why not?  Maybe if kids were given more free time to explore what they have in their little kid brains and reflect upon their findings instead of taking endless lessons in tennis, karate, ice skating, and whatever else there is to take after school, then perhaps they would turn up some very interesting future vocations indeed. Kids need to think.  Kids need to do nothing every now and then.  And they need to read and read and read whenever possible.  And if they discover that they love to sing or play piano or tap dance or play soccer or water polo or anything else, then at least they’ll have their own energy to spur them on.
