WHAT’S THAT???

You know, cats worry. Maybe they don’t knit their little hairy brows or strike worry poses, but they do feel anxiety about certain things. I, right now, for example, am distraught that the temperature outside today was about 90 and for a creature who is permanently in a fur coat, that’s hot. We kitties cannot go to the hair shop (as our neighbor in LA calls the beauty parlor, or in France, the toilettage pour les animaux, which is still hair shop for animals) and get skinned, which is what some of those idiot doggies look like after their summer trim!

If you did that to me, I don’t even want to think about it….I’d look like one of those Russian hairless kitties who actually are pretty exotic and interesting to me but I wouldn’t want to BE one.

So yes, anxiety exists in kitties. And certainly in anthros. But while I was reading a great piece in the International Herald today on just that subject http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/07/13/nothing-to-do-but-embrace-the-dread/, I realize that what struck me was that anxiety does not have many solutions. There are pills, yes, as the author mentions, and they help break the fall into a completely bottomless abyss (abbyssian-hmm, are they related?), but in the end, the very fact that one can count on anxiety is a help, since most anxiety arises from not knowing anything about which way a situation wil go.

So in that sense, anxiety is its own relief!

That worries me—I think it’s nap time.
