NATIONAL PET DAY! CELEBRATE!

image

Well, I am celebrating with this little story about anthros who save animals.

I just saw the website about the happy farm and it was really, really sweet! Here’s one of the farm’s inhabitants.

SO, I thought we should mention this lovely place near our little ville, Argeles-sur-mer, Argeles on the sea, where one can find La Ferme du Bonheur,

The Farm of Happiness.  One of our friends told us about this and we know some of the kind people who work at the farm to save abused and neglected and abandoned animals.  And the mate of one of the women who work there is a lovely guitarist and made a CD with a song for each animal–so sweet, plus he really is a wonderful musician.

Just reading about it is fun so we thought you might enjoy it, even though it is in France and far away from many out there.  I still wish mama could have the donkeys over for tea or something (for hay? artichoke leaves? carrot cake?) one day because even though I am a bit wary of mama’s love for those guys, I do like seeing them every now and then when they are parked in the lot across the street.

Here they are traipsing down our street and mama just caught a quick pic for me as they passed.

Uh, oh, mama’s trying to give them carrots!  She should know better.  Now, every time Luques tries to take them somewhere and mama is around and they hear her voice, they whinny (well, the mule whinnies) and hee-haw and start following MAMA.  Bad, bad, mama.

But it’s good to know that there are people who take good care of their donkeys and mule around here and that there is a farm of happiness for so many more.  The donkey is the Catalan symbol, so they are especially popular with many who have the space to keep two or more.  They love company so it’s not good to have just one donkey, mama says.

I’d be happy with just one coming to visit…

Did you know that if you have a space in your front teeth, it is called le dent de Bonheur? The tooth of happiness.  For some reason, everyone mama has ever met with a space between his or her front teeth has become a friend.  Funny, no?  Well, I happen to have a BIG space between MY fangs, haha.

If that’s not space, I don’t know what IS!

And speaking of National Pet Day, take a look at this nice man’s blog about intelligence in kitties.

I think maybe I just don’t have the right ears…..
