Mama’s calling me to write something and today I just feel lazy.  And confused  It’s not that I have only air in my little kitty brain right now, but that I’m simply overwhelmed with the politics under discussion and choices to be made in our country come November.

I have to ask the question:  will things change?  Because it is really the very low income inhabitants of the USA who are suffering most.  Yes, some say the middle class is disappearing and that one day there will be only the haves and the have nothings, but I think we are a better country than that.   I think that there really are opportunities for many, compared to other countries, and that with perseverance one can actually make a change.  This is especially true for immigrants–those who are hoping for a better and safer life in our country.

It disturbs me, for example, that the Republican platform is across the board against immigration and wishes to “send back home” those who have managed to come to our FREE country where they will not be in danger from our government just because they have different beliefs from others.  A three-year-old child will not be sentenced to prison in our country (by mistake–the Cairo government did not bother to check that they were accusing a child of a crime he could not possibly have committed!); those who wish to worship as they like will not be gunned down on a regular basis by radical Islamists in their place of worship.  And families must stay together who immigrate to the USA.  Children must not be separated from parents because one or the other has no papers to show.  Yet.

You realize that we would lose huge portions of the work force in our country if we were to “send back” all of the immigrants who made it to the USA and began making their lives here.  Or how about “sending back” all of the immigrants who actually made this country HAPPEN!  DUH.  Where are the minds of these people who fear that immigrants will somehow tarnish our society by trying to live among us?  This overwhelming fear that someone who is different from YOU will somehow cause havoc in your life and your family’s lives is absolutely ungrounded.

Let’s call a spade a spade, so to speak.  Those afraid of immigration are really afraid of ANYONE different from themselves and simply cannot find it in themselves to open their minds and hearts to those who have struggled so hard to live a better life in a welcoming country.

I think I’m going to bow out of politics for awhile and keep my sanity by writing about subjects that can bring humor and joy into our lives.

Sometimes the spirit just needs a little rest.  Yoga can help…
